Soil water retention curves of a silty clayey sand compacted at different dry density

چکیده

The study of the hydraulic behaviour compacted soils in partially saturated conditions is essential for understanding engineering performance geotechnical structures such as river embankments. paper presents results an experimental focusing on effects initial water content and dry density soil retention curve (SWRC) volume change a mixture under loading. For this purpose, specimens at different contents(dry, wet optimum content), chosen basis standard Proctor compaction test, were used. Specimens composed 70% Ticino sand (TS) 30% Pontida silt (PON) have been tested. This heterogeneous silt, that usually constitute embankments tributaries Po (Italy). SWRCs along drying paths performed by means evaporation tests starting from gained permeameter tests. investigation void index during variation tested was estimated calliper photographic comparison. Changes are consistent with changes specimen condition while exhibited end test always negligible.

TECHNICAL NOTE Effectiveness of a Winged Subsoiler in Ameliorating a Compacted Clayey Forest Soil

:‘)ii$ Machine piling of slash and brush after harvest is commonly practiced when establishing new conifer plantations. However, it can result in increased soil bulk density, decreased soil macroporosity, and increased soil strength, thus reducing conifer root development and above-ground growth (Froehlich 1979, Sands and Bowen 1978). Because natural recovery of soil from compaction is slow, wa...

Intrinsic degradation of volatile fatty acids in laboratory-compacted clayey soil.

Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) represent the major organic constituent of landfill leachate and provide the greatest potential for leachate induced organic contamination of groundwater (e.g. as represented by an increase in the concentration of dissolved organic carbon and chemical oxygen demand). Long-term diffusion tests were performed for laboratory-compacted clayey soil plugs exposed to contin...

the effects of soil conditioners on water retention content at different matric suctions in a saline-sodic soil

application of soil conditioners for remediation of saline- sodic soils is one of the common methods for improving soil properties in arid and semi-arid regions. in order to study the effect of soil conditioners on retention of soil moisture content, an experiment was carried out based on randomized complete block design with three replications in a saline-sodic sandy clay loam soil. the treatm...

Intrinsic Sorptivity and Water Infiltration into Dry Soil at Different Degrees of Saturation

The sorptivity S quantifies the effect of capillarity on liquid movement in a porous material. For liquid infiltration into an initially dry material, S is a parameter that is contingent on both liquid and material properties as well as the maximum liquid content behind the infiltrating front, θm. In prior work, Culligan et al. (2005) used scaling analyses to derive a dimensionless, intrinsic s...

Influence of water and sand content on adhesion of clayey soils

Clogging occurs during mechanical tunneling with a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) because of adhesion of clayey soils to the cutterhead and conveyor system. The present study examined the effects of water and sand contents on clogging in Montmorillonite clayeysoil. Testing was carried out using an adhesion test device on 28 samples with different water and sand contents to determine adhesionstress...
